Biographies- Amy Whearity

Amy has been dancing for as long as she can remember (over 30 years)! Her mum sent her to ballet classes at the age of 3 and from that moment dance in all forms became her number one passion.

From the age of 4, she was taking dance exams, participating in competitions, annual shows and pantomimes, attending classes 3 or 4 times a week and never grew tired of it. At age 11, she was lucky enough to play the part of Kate, one of the Orphans in the musical Annie, at the Leicester Haymarket theatre and then 3 years later was one of the dancers in the famous tap musical 42nd Street at the same theatre.  From that young age, she knew that dance would always be a part of her life.

At 16, she went on to study at the Melton Mowbray college of Further Education mainly in Contemporary dance but also Drama and at the end of her 2 years there, she gained a B-tech national diploma in Performing Arts. Amy also holds qualifications with the British Theatre Dance Association (BTDA) as well as the I.S.T.D.

When she left college, Amy took on many dance jobs including several seasons on Cruise liners. She then took a break from performing and started teaching in evenings and weekends. She enjoyed passing her knowledge and passion for dance on to children and found great job satisfaction in seeing students she taught getting top exam results and also finding their love for dance.  She became the head of Tap at a local dance school where she also taught Ballet, Lyrical, Modern Jazz and choreographed many routines for their annual show.

In her 20s, she was part of a cast of 18 on the Carnival cruise ship The Fantasy which travelled from Florida and around the Caribbean, where she performed 8 times a week in two different shows Broadway and Nightclub.

Amy is married, has two beautiful children Zac and Lucas and is now a very busy Mum!  Of Launch, she feels that it came along just at the right time, as while she has always taught dance, she has very much missed that feeling of being alive that the performance side brings and is now extremely excited to get back on stage with 5 other girls who all have different lives but share one passion!

Amy is also looking forward to developing the Company into an Academy where children and adults can also discover their very own passion for dancing...watch this space!
